FEBRUARY NEWSLETTER

LEARN MORE small town charm to countryside splendor

The opening reception for my two man show at the Hockaday Museum with B Rex Stewart is almost here. I hope to see everyone this Thursday evening, February the 23rd at the Hockaday. Mark your calendars! The show is titled, 'Flathead on Canvas:Small Town Charm to Country side Splendor'. This has been a labor of love for the past year to get together a solid body of work that I feel is my best yet. I am so very excited to see them displayed in such a top tier venue and I can't wait to see Rex's work as well. Unlike previous shows, I will have several large studio works in addition to small plein airs. The large works really have a presence and take you into the scene. This is a big honor and I am feeling very blessed to have this opportunity.

'Sundown at the Mill' oil on canvas 8"x10"
This painting was chosen for the People's Choice Award at the Umpqua Plein air 2016 event in Roseburg Oregon. The subject is one of the few working sawmills left in southern Oregon and was lit up nicely during a perfect Roseburg sunset. This was the last painting of the day during the first day of the paint out. I recently got the news that this work was purchased and will be a part of the permanent collection at the Seven Feathers Hotel in Canyonville Oregon.

PAINTING DEMO

plein air in the studio

Beginning with a sketch, Jeff Troupe will demonstrate his “in studio” plein air techniques. Although he will be using a photo reference, the tips and advice he shares will apply as if he were painting on location. As he explains his choices of preferred materials, color palette, and gives painting advice, attendees will have an opportunity to have a dialog with the artist.
