In recent weeks I have made big efforts to grow my fine art contact list. If you are receiving this newsletter for the first time I want to thank you for subscribing and I sincerely hope you enjoy learning more about me and my work. I studied oil painting under Randal Sexton and Brian Blood at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, California in the early 2000's. However, I did not choose the path of oil painter back then. I graduated with a degree in computer animation and had a successful 10 year career in the computer games industry. My wife and I longed to leave the congestion and rat race of the bay area so in 2013 we started heading north.

Our first stop was a little known place in the high desert of Northern California called Alturas. It was there that I began painting full time and had my first solo exhibit called Painting the Modoc Landscape at the Alturas Art Center. At the end of 2014 we were bound for Kalispell, Montana. Life in Montana has been filled with adventure! Within 6 months of moving to Montana we found out that we were pregnant with our first child. Just before our son was born I had a solo exhibit called Downtown Perspective at a local gallery in Kalispell where I painted all of the businesses on main street. The show was a success and a wonderful opportunity to connect with the business owners downtown and showcase the charm of historic main street.

This lead me to my most recent two man show with B. Rex Stewart at the Hockaday Museum of Art entitled 'Flathead on Canvas: Small Town Charm to Countryside Splendor' that opened in February of this year. Between painting and preparing for these shows and keeping up with life as a new dad, I began retooling my digital art skills. In September of this year my wife and I launched Jeff Troupe Designs which is a full service web and graphic design company. I find that the design work provides a great balance to the painting and the added benefit is more quality time with my family. I am truly blessed!

Winter arrived early in the Flathead valley of Montana and I was fortunate to have lots of photo reference from the September Glacier Plein Air Paint Out to use as inspiration for these little paintings. My goal was to create affordable fine art gift options for the holidays. I hope you enjoy the selection!

The East Side neighborhood of Kalispell, Montana is full of beautiful historic homes and inviting tree-lined streets. The summer of 2015 was our first summer in the Flathead Valley and it was another bad fire season. With the temperatures being so hot and the air being so smokey, painting in Glacier Park did not appeal to me. The cool shady canopies of the East Side seemed like the perfect place to escape the abysmal outdoor conditions.

It was then that I began painting peoples homes on the East Side of Kalispell. At first I just chose homes at random whose architectural elements appealed to me, but before long I started receiving requests to paint specific homes. I have greatly enjoyed rendering charming dormers, welcoming porches adorned with proud American flags, and stately bay windows set off by colorful gardens. The dramatic dappled lighting under the canopy is a common theme in these paintings and the changing seasons brings dramatic change to the neighborhood.

St. Mary Lake is one of the most iconic places in all of Glacier National Park. I painted this from photo reference gathered at this year's edition of Plein Air Glacier.
